ASHF Announces Inaugural Scholarship

The Alamo Scouts Historical Foundation (ASHF) Board of Directors proudly presents the creation of the Alamo Scouts Historical Foundation Scholarship. The competitive, annual $1000 scholarship will be awarded to one student (with at least one year remaining before graduation) beginning the 2018-2019 academic year. The contest is open to U.S. citizens attending a 4-year college or university in the United States or abroad.

Candidates must create and submit an original 8-15 minute video presentation addressing an aspect of U.S. Army participation in the Pacific Theater during World War II.  Submissions will be evaluated on originality, presentation, technical quality, content, accuracy, and on their contribution to the extant historical record.  Submissions will be accepted between Oct 1, 2017 and Aug 1, 2018, or until the first 25 entries are received.  The winning entry will be announced on or before Aug 30, 2018. The winner must provide proof of full-time enrollment in an accredited institution of higher education. In case of default, the second-place entry will be awarded the scholarship.

“The ASHF is committed to publicizing the role that the army played in the Pacific during World War II,” said historian Lance Zedric.  “Contrary to public perception, the Marines and Navy weren’t the only ones to fight in the Pacific.  And we believe that the best way to promote the Army’s contribution is to get young people involved through education and incentives.”

“As a foundation, it is our responsibility to ensure the continued study of not only the Alamo Scouts, but beyond,” added Russ Blaise, executive director of the ASHF.  “We need the help of our members, the general public, and from corporate sponsorship.  The foundation is appealing to our membership to help identify potential supporters. Our goal is to raise $20,000, to fund the scholarship for the next 20 years.  That is 20 students that we can help go to college.”

Those donating $1000 or more may designate a scholarship in memoriam. For example: The Alamo Scouts Historical Foundation [Enter name here] Memorial Scholarship.
