Alamo Scouts Plaque was mounted today, May 15, 2007, at the National Museum of the Pacific War (also known as the Admiral Nimitz Museum) in Fredericksburg, Texas.  The 20" x 20" plaque is on the “L” bracket wall to the west of the propeller pool which is a newly built area. The plaque honors the Alamo Scouts and memorializes the late Founder and Director of the Alamo Scouts Association, Col. Robert S. Sumner. Click Here for a larger view.

The Alamo Scouts Association desperately needs additional photos and/or information on the following Alamo Scouts: Robert Beattie, Jack E. Benson, Robert J. Borg, Ray Corpuz, Denmore Euart, William Farrell, John E. Gass, Paul V. Gomez, William Haslam, Howard Helton and John W. Hoke.  Click Here for the entire list of names. An Article That Appeared in the April-June 1986 issue of The Trading Post, the quarterly magazine of the American Society of Military Insignia Collectors, has been re-written by the original author, Les Huhes. It appears on the INSIGNE.org website. The article is written about the history of the Alamo Scouts Sleeve Insignia.

Photo of Sumner Team members, Harry D. Weiland and William F. Blaise, illustrates early special forces units that led to the formation of the Green Berets in a children's book entitled "The Green Berets".  It is part of the Warriors of History series by Capstone Press.  Click Here to see full page.

McGowen Team mentioned in a new book by, Clinton Frederick.  Clinton returned to his grandparents' house for a family wedding in 2002.  In the attic, just as he'd remembered, were Japanese swords, parachutes, and other memorabilia from WWII.  In a trunk stuck back under the rafters, Clinton made a discovery that would change his life forever.  Inside were more than hundred letters written by his father, Captain George Frederick. WWII - A Legacy of Letters, is a true story of love and war.  In it, Frederick artfully weaves together his father's letters with historical information about some of the most important military campaigns of the war. Alamo Scouts Plaque to be dedicated at the National Museum of the Pacific War (also known as the Admiral Nimitz Museum) in Fredericksburg, Texas.  The 20" x 20" plaque will be among the more then 1000 plaques that hang on the century-old limestone wall separating the museum's Memorial Courtyard from the Japanese Garden of Peace. The plaque will honor the Alamo Scouts and memorialize the late Founder and Director of the Alamo Scouts Association, Col. Robert S. We know it’s the McGOWEN Team.
We know the photo was taken after the Los Negros mission (27-28 Feb 1944). We know that the man (back row, center) is John R. C. McGowen. We know that the rest of the team consists of Paul A. Gomez, John P. Leugoud, Walter A. McDonald, Caesar Ramirez, and John A. (Red) Roberts. But we don’t know who is who? Can anyone help match the names to the faces? Please email Russ or Lance. Alamo Scouts Plaque
National Museum of the Pacific War
Alamo Scouts Plaque to be installed at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas. Also known as The Admiral Nimitz Museum, the 20" x 20" plaque will be among the more then 350 or so plaques that line the 100 year old limestone wall separating the museum's Memorial Courtyard from the Japanese Garden of Peace. Alamo Scout Patch
$2,928.78
From 4-11 May 2005, an original Alamo Scouts shoulder patch was auctioned on Ebay by a militaria dealer.  The patch sold for $2,928.78. Only 440 Alamo Scouts Shoulder Patches were produced sometime in late 1944/early 1945. According to Lew Hochstrasser, officers purchased their patches for ten cents apiece, and enlisted men recieved up to three for no charge, (go to Insignia page).

Movie Screening
The Great Raid
The Alamo Scouts will be getting a real treat at their 2005 reunion. Miramax Pictures will be hosting a screening of their upcoming movie, The Great Raid. It will be shown on Saturday June 18th at 10am at the Crown Center Cinema, 2450 Grand, Kansas City. After the movie there will be a q&a by the Director, John Dahl. The official release of this movie is September 2nd.

ALAMO SCOUTS REUNION 2005
Date and location is set
The date for the Alamo Scouts reunion is June 15th through the 18th. A poll was sent out to all of the AS members asking where they would like the reunion to be held. A large percent of them came back with Kansas City Missouri as the location for the reunion. So Kansas City Missouri it is. Team Leader Robert L. Shirkey will be the host of this years reunion. Once we have all the details, more will be posted.

ALAMO SCOUTS REUNION 2005

Commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Alamo Scouts Association and the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II, the ASA would like to extend a special invitation to all ASA members, non-members, families, and friends to attend next years reunion at a location to be determined.

A special tribute will also be held in honor of ASA co-founder and Director, Robert S. Sumner, who passed away in August. More details on the reunion will be posted on this web page as we have them. Keep checking back for the latest reunion information. Hope to see you there!

The passing of our Director
The Alamo Scout community is saddened by the passing of Colonel Robert S. Sumner, Director of the Alamo Scouts Association, on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2004.  "Red" was the catalyst in creating and perpetuating the Association in 1980.  Under his energetic and articulate direction, the Association thrived and grew to include more than 60 members.  But more importantly, he was our friend.
